Another Summer Visit Day!

Tomorrow, 10am, at Lakehouse, is our next Summer Visit Day. Prospective undergraduate high school students are invited to attend a Summer Visit Day to learn about Georgian Court University. The session will include information about the application process, scholarships, financial aid process and a guided tour of the campus. Once again, make sure to register for the event. (Check out that link for a list of all of our upcoming events.)

We have so much going on now! We are preparing for our incoming students and running a ton of summer info sessions! But of course we always have time for questions- here is a list of new FAQs:

What hotel should I stay at if I am coming to visit from a distance?
We have a ton of hotels in this area, but here is the info for one of the hotels our guests normall stay at:

What should I bring when I move in?
Check out the Orientation page for incoming students to get a list of things you may want to bring.

How are roommates assigned?
Your Housing Contract includes a Roommate Matching Form with questions about your preferences and interests (music, hobbies, sleeping habits). Roommates are paired based on those preferences.

What are the gym hours?
Check out this link to find an up to date schedule. Also, you will find a list of recreation activities available at the gym, like yoga and cardio kickboxing.

What sports can I find at GCU:
The Lions compete in eight NCAA Division II and CACC sports:

Basketball
Cross Country
Lacrosse
Soccer
Softball
Track & Field
Tennis
Volleyball

When will incoming students get their GCU email accounts?
Students will get their new email addresses when they come for orientation in late August.

When can I apply for Fall 10?
Applications can be sent in now, but we can not review them until September. But you can get a head start now- fill out our application (for free online www.georgian.edu), get your guidance counselor to send in your transcript with 12th year classes, send in your resume/brag sheet, SAT scores (if you took the SATS) and essay. The sooner you get everything in, the quicker you can recieve an answer from us!

Unlike our last info session- the sun is out today!!! Starting at 6pm tonight at Lakehouse- potential freshmen, transfers and graduates are all invited to attend. A general info session will be followed by a tour of the campus. Once again, make sure to register for the event. (Check out that link for a list of all of our upcoming events.)

Also, for incoming freshmen-make sure you have registered for the accuplacer if you haven’t already. The next date is July 14, call admissions (732-987-2700) ASAP to register if you haven’t already! Also New Student Orientation is right around the corner! Make sure to RSVP for this event at 732-987-2606!

Another day of rain

Today is our first Admissions Info Session for the summer! Starting at 6pm tonight at Lakehouse- potential freshmen, transfers and graduates are all invited to attend. Here at Admissions, we just began to prepare for the event tonight- most importantly getting out the rain ponchos. Below are pictures of Carolyn and I modeling the stylish GCU rain ponchos, which our lovely STARS Ambassadors will wear during the (most likely) rainy tours today!

Today, GCU will be attending the fair at Lakewood High School! We are very excited about visiting the high school in our own backyard!

Next week we will also be local when we attend the Blue Claws College Night on Thursday, May 28th! Look for us GCU counselors in our snazzy GCU attire!

Congratulations to everyone graduating!!! Faculty, Staff, friends, family and current students are all coming out to support the graduates today. And the sun finally came out!

Around the Lake

Besides the beautiful historic buildings and statues found on the GCU Campus, we are also on the Lake Carasaljo. Today we headed out to the Lake to see if we could find any baby geese.

…And we did find babies! We are so excited for Spring! With the nice weather we can walk around the campus, check out the gardens, the lagoon, and of course- lots of geese and deer.

Incoming Students! It’s time to get ready!

Even though the semester is coming to a close for our students- admissions has been very busy! Saturday was our 2nd Accuplacer testing day for students coming in next fall! If you are coming to GCU in the fall make sure you sign up to take the Accuplacer ASAP! Only 2 more dates are left to sign up, so sign up here. That day, students take the test to determine classes for the fall, meet with advisors, and register for classes that day! It’s a great day to check out the campus again, ask those last minute questions, and of course, grab lunch in the dining hall! A lot of students and parents did tours of just the dorms, so that they could get a better idea of what they wanted to bring in the Fall to decorate their dorm! Bring the family- we have workshops for the family throughout the day!

Our Summer Visit Days are also now posted online here! Prospective undergraduate students will get a chance to learn about the application process, scholarships, the financial aid process and take a guided tour of the campus. Reservations are required, so check out our website and sign up for a day!

Also new for us Counselors is our Facebook page and that we can now be followed on Twitter. So for up-to-date information and to find out when your counselor is visiting your area check out any of these new pages (and of course the blogs)!

Open House was GREAT!

We had our first Open House of the Spring last Saturday. We had hundreds of people on our campus!! Most importantly, people were able to check out the new Wellness Center, tour the campus, ask questions at the GCU Community Fair, and sample our food in the dining hall! The whole GCU community really came out to make this event great!

We even made the Asbury Park Press! Don’t worry, if you missed this Open House we will have another one on April 25th, simply register online at www.georgian.edu.

Counselor Travels- PA

Tonight, March 10, 2009, I will be at the College Fair in Upper Dublin, PA! The Fair is at the Upper Dublin High School and will be from 7:00 to 9:00.

I just finished my high school visits for the day- at William Tennet High School and Archbishop Wood High School.

Next week, I will be attending the College Fair at Camden Community College in NJ, Blackwood Campus, from 6:30 to 8:00. I will be bringing GCU mementos for door prizes! This fair is going to be a lot of fun- they are going to have different door prizes and a scholarship worth $500 is going to be given out that night by the Camden County School Counselors Association!

The Next Admissions Event!

With Open House coming up, I almost forgot about the next Admissions Event- our Campus Overnight Experience on March 11th. Perspective students get matched up with current GCU students to spend the night in the dorms and go to class! This is such a fun event! Our guests and hosts go to dinner together and attend a campus activity that night. Last time, our activity was wii Gaming Night and it was a huge success!

For the upcoming overnight the activity is going to be the International Fair held in the Casino. I will post more information on this event as I get it. The next day the guests will attend Scholarship Day. I will also post more information on that as well- the lectures sound really interesting. I will definitely be attending a few that day!
